Located near the coastal region of South Carolina, Williamsburg County School District is composed of 934 square miles, making it the seventh largest county in the South Carolina inland area. The school district serves more than 7,000 students, with over 1,000 persons employed by the school district. The school district has 9 elementary schools, 1 junior high school, 3 high schools, and 1 vocational training center. In order to meet the various needs of the students in the county, the district provides programs which consist of the traditional kindergarten through twelfth grade, child development, gifted and talented, special education, adult education, Occupational Education, JROTC, Tech Prep, computer technology, and robotics. Services for students include health, foodservices, transportation, counseling, psychological, speech, hearing, and homebound. A complete listing of schools in the
district is available upon request. Williamsburg Academy is an independent school located in Kingstree. The school offers a wide range of opportunities with academics as well as athletics within a safe environment. AP courses and dual credits with Williamsburg Technical College help prepare college bound students. The Lower School Curriculum (K-5) is enriched with the Accelerated Reader Program, Spanish, Music, PE, Computer, and Library. After school day care is available for a nominal fee.

Religion: Religion, like the rest of Williamsburg County, has a cherished history. Perhaps no other concept is as deeply rooted in the local culture as religion. Today in Williamsburg County, freedom to worship is still believed to be one of the most important gifts of our heritage. We have over 50 churches, old and new of many different denominations. As local churches provide an opportunity to grow spiritually as well as fellowship with others, all visitors, newcomers, and residents are encouraged to worship at the church of their choice.
